Building Momentum Across the Nordic–Hong Kong Life Science Ecosystem

The first half of 2026 has been an exciting period for Nordic–Hong Kong collaboration within healthcare and life sciences.

Over the past few months, we have focused on strengthening connections between the Nordic and Hong Kong ecosystems through ministerial engagement, industry events, company support programmes and new international partnerships.

Hong Kong Ministerial Delegation to Sweden

In May, we had the privilege of welcoming Professor Sun Dong, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, together with a delegation comprising representatives from government, academia and industry, including HKBIO, City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (ETO).

The visit brought together stakeholders from across healthcare, research, innovation and investment, creating valuable opportunities to explore how the Nordics and Hong Kong can work more closely together to accelerate innovation and improve patient outcomes.

It was particularly encouraging to see the visit receive coverage in Asian media, further highlighting the growing interest in Nordic–Hong Kong collaboration.

BioStock Global Forum

In May, we also participated in BioStock Global Forum in Lund, one of the Nordic region’s leading life science meeting places.

The event provided an opportunity to engage with entrepreneurs, investors, researchers and industry leaders while continuing to highlight the opportunities that exist between the Nordic region and Hong Kong.

Nordic–Hong Kong Healthcare Innovation Dialogue

On 17 June, the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Sweden and HKBIO hosted the Nordic–Hong Kong Healthcare Innovation Dialogue in Stockholm.

The event brought together participants from across healthcare, academia, investment and industry, both in person and online, to discuss healthcare innovation, translational science, investment opportunities and future collaboration.

The strong engagement throughout the morning reinforced the growing interest in building deeper partnerships between the Nordics and Hong Kong.

From Dialogue to Action: Nordic–Hong Kong Growth Sprint

Alongside these activities, we have been developing the Nordic–Hong Kong Growth Sprint.

The programme is designed to help life science companies move beyond introductions and networking by providing structured support for business development, partnership building, market access and international growth opportunities.

Our ambition is to help organisations translate conversations into tangible outcomes and long-term collaborations.

Looking Ahead

The momentum continues throughout the second half of the year.

In August, I am honoured to have been invited to join the panel at the BiotechBuilders event, contributing to discussions on innovation, collaboration and the future of healthcare.

September will see the Nordics take centre stage at BIOHK 2026 through the Nordic–Hong Kong Life Science Delegation. In partnership with the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Sweden and HKBIO, we will showcase some of the exceptional innovation emerging from the Nordic life science ecosystem while creating new opportunities for collaboration across Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and Asia.

Building the Bridge

Over the past year, we have worked to build stronger connections between the Nordic and Hong Kong life science communities.

What began as conversations is now developing into partnerships, programmes and practical opportunities for companies, researchers, investors and healthcare organisations.

We look forward to continuing this journey and supporting even greater collaboration in the months and years ahead.
