So, for the past two years we have lived in a global pandemic which has seen a shift to patients being able to virtually visit their doctor, being able to get a prescription virtually delivered to the pharmacy so that you do not have to go to see the doctor.
There is also now more spending with the mental health area, and this is growing which is also probably a knock-on effect from the pandemic.
Is there a perfect storm on the horizon again as elective surgeries were cancelled due to patients being admitted with Covid-19? We now have a long backlog of people who are presenting with chronic diseases that need to access healthcare again.
The sales in pain killers are now worth $110.08 billion in 2022 due to patients being in pain and is this a knock-on effect from the pandemic? How can we also ensure that patients do not get addicted to these?
Unfortunately, cancer is also not going away anytime soon and breast cancer now is the biggest area of growth with the uptake of mRNA therapeutics which are becoming more personalised with great results for patients.
During the pandemic there has been a shift towards patients being offered care in their own home but how sustainable is this due to prefilled syringes needing to be at a precise temperature to be administered into the patient? Do we have enough resources to be able to deliver this service?
Is the cold chain logistics available for this to happen? What happens to the waste after the syringe has been used as these are made from plastic? With geopolitics in the world how can we ensure that we get enough oil to make the plastic products we need?
This is even more challenging when you are in countries with warmer climates. How are logistics companies going to keep them cool and achieve carbon neutrality?
I am also wondering where is the preventative healthcare sector on how we can keep ourselves fitter and healthier for the next pandemic?
What is the true cost of the future healthcare for me and you and how much are we willing to pay for this?
I am excited because this year I will be once again moderating The Future of Swedish and Danish Life Science event at Medicon Village in Lund, Sweden on 7th September 2022 where we will be discussing Opportunities in innovation, funding, and growth.
I hope we can discuss the storm that we are heading for.
